We asked our friends at Nossa Familia Coffee, an absolute must have experience for all your senses, to give us the rundown of what went into designing their gorgeous new (and 3rd in Portland) location.
Background of Seven Corners Café location:
When Community Vision, Inc. invited us to be the retail tenant in their new headquarters, a four-story office building at the southeast corner of Ladd’s Addition called the Seven Corners Collaborative, there was no question that we would make it happen. We are inspired everyday by the work that they do in providing crucial services to assist people experiencing disabilities in finding work and living independently. We have been humbled to provide employment for folks with disabilities through their program here at Nossa Familia Coffee in our production department for the past few years.
Accessibility for all:
The building itself is a model for accessibility and home to several nonprofits working in the disability services space, including an Assistive Technology lab on the ground level open to all. In following the universal design theme of the building, we have been conscientious to include accessible features in the new cafe such as ADA-height equipment and countertops, flexible and varied seating options for all body types, and easy-drinking straw and mug options for people experiencing disability.
Interior design inspiration and goals:
Our goal is to have a warm, comfortable, and welcoming space for all.
Following the theme of our cafés being inspired by the aesthetics of the countries where we source our coffee, our Seven Corners cafe draws on our founder, Augusto’s, roots in Brazil.
The café is rustic-modern ‘Fazenda’ (farm) themed, drawing inspiration from the bright blue, white and terracotta farmhouses at one of the founder’s family farms, Fazenda Recreio. The cafe incorporates accents such as reclaimed wood paneling and tabletops from Viridian Hardwoods and The Joinery, handmade ceramic mugs, custom terracotta pendant lighting, and Portuguese-Brazilian patterned tiles in shades of blue. We hope that you’ll feel a part of the Brazilian familia when you step into this cafe.
